Thanks JPG for getting me headed in the right direction. The 5 was under the metal strap that holds the coil and the relay to the motor. Confused I guess!
It does run forward and reverse.

I will be changing the length of the way and bench tubes as soon as I get a chance. I bought this Shopsmith because I needed the legs and casters for another unit. When I found out it had a G E motor I decided to try the reverse setup. The sanding disk and grinder don't need the reverse just had to put something on it.
