Yup, you are right, Paul. I really do not have room in my shop. But if I wanted it bad enough, I'd set it up and use it in the open air addition just to the east of the shop. Remember that area?:rolleyes:paulmcohen wrote:Dusty I have seen your shop and room is not something you have a lot of:)
I'd just have to learn to not pick up any tool that had been left laying out there.

Shopsmith Tilt Arbor Table Saw
At my Labor Day Home Show last year, I have a "jerk" loudly proclaim that only a tilt arbor table was worth buying and Shopsmith would never have or could be adapted for one. So, I am almost done with my 10" tilt arbor 510 fixed table saw. It mounts like the thickness planer (uses the same clamps). I am using a auxiliary (jack) shaft with 2 pulleys in place of the motor and with a pulley on the quill shaft (Link belt on arbor to jack shaft). I had to use a ½” belt from the saw arbor to the jack shaft. This allows me to tilt the saw arbor and raise and lower the saw arbor.
The only major problem is this unit weights around 80 pds so I need help to mount/unmount it on the way tubes. I did test the setup as I had to make a few different adaptor plates (338) and other modifications to align the 510 table to the main and extension 510 tables and allow the 10“ saw blade to clear the 510 table at different tilt angles (45 degrees - 343, 90 degrees - 342) ).
Then I disassembled it to to clean and paint all the parts. That was as far as I gotten in the past year as the parts were covered with later Shopsmith parts. My son uncovered the parts this weekend. I plan to display it in my booth at future Home Shows. The complete tilt arbor part (339) is cast iron and very well built (from a Rigid Professional TS24240). I hope to switch from belts to a flexible type drive system ( must handle up to 5000 RPMs) if I can find 2 5/8” flexible joints and a sliding extension.

Nice work Bill.
I ordered some stuff for an 'alternative headstock' project, 2 watercooled spindles, 800w and 2.2kw plus one vfd and a tilting angle plate. No sooner delivered when the real world got in the way and hoovered up all my project money... can't even order cable for the spindles at the mo.
