Dear Shopsmith Experts:
I was gifted a MkV SS and it came with a jointer (lucky me!).
However, I have not yet been able to use the jointer because I cannot figure out how to secure the fence laterally to the jointer. It came with the tilt adjustment lock attached to the front of the fence which seems to work just fine - when tightened, it stays put at the selected angle.
The fence fits onto the little steel bar on the front of the infeed table and slides nicely back and forth.
However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the fence to lock in position laterally. As with anything involving whizzing blades, I am wary of trying to use it unless I am 100% sure I have everything set up correctly.
I've got a copy of Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone - and it mentions every other possible adjustment on the Jointer - but not how the fence is supposed to lock laterally! Am I missing a part? I've looked all over the fence and the infeed table for a bolt or a set screw or something to lock it in place laterally via the front bar, but no go. Does it attach right to the infeed or outfeed table (or both) somehow?
Any advice or pointers you could provide would be much appreciated.
Thanks very much!
Steve
How the heck do I secure my SS jointer fence?

I don't own the SS jointer but have used one and IIRC, that locking handle has two position, IN and OUT. IN, it locks the fence angle. OUT, it locks the lateral position. Try pulling the handle OUT and then twist to lock.
If I have this wrong, you will hear about it real soon from other forum members.

Manual
In the jointer General Information bucklet on page 4, it reads item * Fence Lock Handle-- This dual purpose handle locks the fence in any position across the tables and at any degree of tilt between 90 and 45 left & right PULL out to engage the travel (horizontal location) locl. PUSH in to engage the tilt lock.
