When I see what I believe to be a spammer;

I immediately place that username on my "Ignore List".

I then generate the post that is intended to alert the forum community of the spammer.

I then, normally, send an email (private message) to Admin. I have not done that the last couple times but IMO that should be done.

Since there is no specific guidance from the Administration on how to react, I simply do what I feel needs to be done. I have been scolded a couple times by forum members who felt that I declared an innocent forum visitor of being a spammer.

If it smells like spam, if it looks like spam, if it reads like spam then it is spam - at least until proven otherwise.

I now have a pretty good security wall build around my computers and am no longer as vulnerable as I once was but I don't want to go through that recovery process again. I also don't want others to have the negative experience that I did. I cry wolf whenever I see or smell wolf.

Your procedure works well. Here I'll usually see the email first, but at home often see the alert post to the forum first. Either way, I try to get them promptly deleted.

Thank You for your diligence!

Suggestion: Include the spammer's id along with 'Spammer alert' in the thread title. Thar eliminates the need to open your thread.

I have sent several PM to admin that way!

It is just simply quicker!!

When I send a spammer notice. I click on the red triangle next to the post #.
