When the incandescents are no longer available the price of chicken will surely rise. (you old farmers will understand:) )

For instance, I heard yesterday that where "texting while driving" has been banned by law, the accident rates have risen. Because people are still texting while driving, but they are holding their phones in their laps to hide them. So the road ahead of them and their surroundings aren't even in their peripheral vision and it takes longer to look back up at the road than if the phone was held up at the top of the steering wheel.

This discussion is truly interesting. The one point I am very clear on being that the only time I need light that fully illuminates immediately is those moments I truly desire to see what I am doing . Fjimp

One thing I am very clear on is that those $%^$ slow turn on bulbs in a couple of time share sites, although quite good for the 'ambience', drive me nuts(nuttier?). I have noticed they ARE phasing them out by attrition!

Good Riddance!!!

BTW what was this thread about anyway?:D

It is amazing how some threads hang on "forever" and others just die. Who would think there would be so much discussion about a light bulb.

Dusty, no one is more amazed than I!! All I wanted to know was: 1) does anyone else out there use CFL lights in their utility lights and 2) if you do, do you notice any strobing effect?

BPR- (1) yes, and (2) not noticably strobing, but my eyes seem to get tired/irritated much faster if I'm doing lathe work with the CFL shining directly on the spinning wood. Also noticed that they don't handle the dusty environment very well- I'd guess they're burning out faster than the incandescents did.
