A really nice start, welcome to the addiction. The lathe is my favorite of the standard mark 5 configurations and despite some limitations, a Shopsmith is a really nice mid size lathe.
The 2 biggest limitations I have come across are
1. a lack of a Morse Taper on the head stock. There are some attachments and techniques I would like to try but will never be able to. Like drilling through a head stock mounted blank.
2. the fixed tail stock move the quill thing. This can make some techniques awkward to learn especially drilling and tapping/threading.
You just have to adapt to different techniques/strategies.
Keep up the good work.
