MISSION ACCOMPLISHED in IRAQ ???

Post by dusty »

The President has just announced that ALL US troops will be out of Iraq by years end.

I don't know if that means in the next 80 days or not but those were essentially his words.

That is great news if we can take it at face value. I only wonder - Is this consistent with the recommendations of the US military leaders or is this a political posturing to strengthen the Presidents foreign affairs ratings.

I also wonder - does this mean that our troops are simply going to get out of their Hum Vs and Tanks to climb onto a departing aircraft and leave everything there like we did in Korea and Vietnam.

I'll believe it when it happens, till then it is all political retoric. Perhaps we will just let the UN take over the operation, all the current troops will be called UN troops, so US troops will no longer be directly involved...same guys, different hats.
Besides, they don't have trees over there, so we don't import their lumber, so what are we doing in the desert anyway. (Just being a smart A**, sorry)

Before leaving office, George Bush arranged the status of forces agreement with Iraq requiring that all troops be out of Iraq by the end of 2011. Obama is simply honoring that agreement.

As I heard it, the military wanted to keep 25,000 troops in Iraq after 2011. Obama offered the Iraqis 5,000 for training Iraqi soldiers and they said no.

Iran is waiting in the wings.

It only cost as $1 trillion and I guessing in about a week and a half there will be some dictator in there far worst than the one we hunted down and killed.

I'm told by someone that should know that the whole thing was over the fact that the US and OPEC had an agreement that for every US dollar spent for buying oil fifty cents would be used to buy US Debt. So in effect our money was backed by oil instead of Gold or the Fed Reserve. The problem was Irag and Hussin would not play nice and honor the agreement.

I'm also told this is why we don't use the oil reserves this country has but no one is drilling for. We needed someone to buy Treasurey Notes that were being used to back our money.

In any case think what the trillion dollars might have done for this country had it been invested in jobs in the US instead of switching dictators in another country where we had no business being to start with.

Bam! That was me jumping off my soap box once again. Sorry I will be quiet now and go back into the shop. :D

You will vote - right. Complaining here will do nothing to effect change; but voting MIGHT do something.
