Parts for my ancient Joiner...

I have a 1956 Shopsmith Mark 5 that it is in getting-better-all-the-time shape. However, regarding the Joiner attachment, I am in need of the triangular guard piece (has the word "Magna" on the top side of the piece.) This is the part that pivots away to reveal the cutter assembly when the user is working on a piece of wood then pivots back to cover the cutter assembly when no wood is being worked on. As an aside, would the newer, upgraded, part (Jointer Featherguard Retro-fit Kit #555480) do the trick? Or will I also need the Jointer Featherguard Retro-fit Installation Kit (#555559) as well? My Joiner does NOT have an aluminum fence, rather, the older cast iron model. I would gladly replace like with like, though.

The installation kit is to provide you with a 1/4-28 tap and the proper size tap drill bit. If you already have them(or can obtain them 'locally'), then no you do not need the 'kit'.

That 'wrench' has got to be hard on one's hand.

Aluminum jointer fence?????

P.S. the description is referring to the older aluminum GUARD which you are missing/replacing.

To what 'wrench' are you referring? I now know that the guard is aluminum (I thought it was pot metal - it is extremely brittle). Not needing the thing immediately, I will wait until Shopsmith re-introduces their "...call in the next 5 days for over-the-phone-20%-savings..." offer...unless something better comes along.

I think I might have one of the metal guards you need for your jointer. I'll be happy to give it to you. I am currently at our TN house - the jointer part is at our FL house. When we go back next week I'll find the part and PM you to see if you want it.
