Easy woodturning tools.

This past Saturday I traveled to the Woodcraft Store in Orlando for their woodworking show and to spend some money.
I picked up the Ci3m mini finisher from EWT and got to use it today. This thing cuts anything from hardwood to acrylics liks a hot knife through butter. HOWEVER< it can be very aggressive and takes a bit of getting used to. The maker states that the tool's cutter must be held on the center line of the turning with the square shaft held down flat on the tool rest and parrallel to the floor. THEY MEAN IT. If you tilt the handle up or down and start the cut and then move the handle to level you WILL get a gouge in the work. This not like a typicaal catch but the tool will cut aggressively and leave convex groove in the work. Not too bad if you are not in the final detailing stage but a little slip may require a redisign.
If you are like me and clear the debris from a gouge by rubbing the flute of the tool with your thumb you will be in for a surprise. The little round carbide is extremely sharp and you will wind up with small cuts in your fingertip. So keep the bandaides handy.
Although this tool seems to be used in the way a scraper is used it did take shavings from acrylic pen blanks.

I just wish the manufacturer made the blade of the tool a bit wider. It was difficult to keep the 3/8 inch wide flat on the tool rest without twisting it onto it's edge. If you do that it Will get aggressive and dig in.
In short I like it a lot but it will take a bit of getting used to.
