Hairpin Clips for Retractable Casters

Post by bhurley »

Does anyone have a source for the subject clips in reasonable quantites? These clips hold the tension on the caster springs. They are not a servicable item through SS. I can find them from any number of suppliers (in quantities of 100). That would last me for 5 lifetimes. I only want 3 or 4.

Thanks in advance.

try Tractor Supply Co if they have a store near you. Or you could try a well stocked farm supply store in your area. They are called hitch pin clips.

I do not recall any spring clips that resemble hitch pin clips on the casters. Are you referring to the u-shaped ones that position the top of the spring to the groove in the piston?

Have you inquired of CS regarding their 'availability'?

I have difficulty with their being 'unavailable'!:(

But then perhaps I have not seen them used as hitch pin clips. I think of hitch pins as having a hole, not a groove.

It is now 2016 and I found some of these "external hitch pins" at Home Depot (the U shaped items). I have yet to try them but they do have a size 3/4". I could not find any larger ones but there are some smaller ones.

I found a few other sites with them but minimum quantities are something like 50 units.

I might have lost some of my hitch pins. Will be searching the shop for them and if I don't find them I will be going to Home Depot to get two of these. Yeah it was totally stupid of me to place them on something that I later moved and they drop to the floor without my noticing it.

Thanks for the link. I was in a hurry so I didn't get to measure the pin diameter. Home Depot had the 3/4" ones and Amazon had a 10 pack of the The Hillman Group 3680 11/16-Inch External Hair Pin Clip Zinc Plated @ $16.00 for 10. The Home Depot price was in the 63 cent each range. Finding it on their site, they will ship to your local store for free.

The trouble with some of these is not so much the price for the items but the shipping cost.

You will discover there is not room for them. Yes I have tried. I have even made some shaped like the 'original'.

Get em from mother(if she has any).
