Scroll Saw Rehab ? Blade Mounting

Question is on Blade Changing and Blade holding Mechanisms.

There is a thread on why some of grey scroll saws have holes along the side of the table. In post#42it shows a table w/o the holes along the side of the table AND THE MYSTERY BLOCK fastened on the back corner of the scroll saw platform "for setting the the blades in the blade holders" ?

I can't see the blade holders but mine has two 3 piece blade holders that came with a blade clamped between them. These blade holders need at least a 1/2" hole to thread the blade and holders through. I assume that is not the way a blade is threaded and some ad hoc positioning method is used. Probably, releasing the blade holder on the upper side, threading the blade through the stock, reinserting the blade in the blade holder, approximating the position in the blade holder, tightening the blade holder, and retensioning the blade.

If that is right, is the Blade Changing Upgradea significant improvement? Since the hood (2) and bracket (3) need to be added to this scroll saw does the upgrade contain the critical, in this case, bracket?

Now, why can't the holders in the upgrade hold 5" blade w/o pins and 5" blades w/pins like the blade holders on a Dremel 1621? All that is required is a place for the pins to set in below (in the case of the upper blade holder) the screw that clamps the blades w/o pins?

The question is how hard is it to thread a blade through the stock and get the blade mounted into the Grey SS Scrollsaw, standard blade holders or Upgrade blade holders? Threading blades through the work piece is a frequent, time comsuming, and frustrating process for me and I want to get a good solution.

I have the quick change upgrade but with or without, blade change is not a real issue unless you do many blade changes during a project.

Every thing works exactly the same way except that you have to attach the blade in the scroll saw if you do not have the quick change. The quick change allows for removing/installing the blade without retensioning.

Are these the blade holders that you have?
