12" Ridgid sliding miter saw

Post by cincinnati »

Anyone own one and your thoughts? I know some may like others better but HD just dropped the price to $399, I have $150 in HD gift cards so makes it $250 for me. Of course if it's not accurate or good then I will hold off.

I looked at buying a used one with Ridgid MUV stand for a very good price. All I can say is the saw is a beast and the stand is nice too. After seeing it and using it, it was more saw than I needed or wanted. If I had the need, though, I would have bought it in a heart beat. Around here you can get a pretty good deal for a saw and stand on the used market. Just have to be patient.

Get yourself a harbor freight 20% off coupon and use it at home depot - I have used them on tools a number of times, and even a fridge and a garbage disposal.

It depends on your Home Depot, mine does not accept the 20% Horror Freight coupons.

Yeah, it definitely depends on the individual store, but I haven't had any problem in the seattle area. They have a policy of matching competitors prices (ie: HD will take a lowes 10% off movers coupon). Since its 20% off any one item, they have always taken it.

heh, just used a 20% off HF coupon to buy a rug at HD about 2 hrs ago ;)

Having owed both 10" & 12" sliding compound miter saws, I really like and use a 10" double tube sliding compound miter saw for 98% of my sawing needs for the past 4 years. I sold the 12" and all my RASs and have not really needed any other saw than a 7 1/4" cut off saw. My 10" 3 HP 6' wide table saw table top has been used for storage during this time. I use a saw blade designed for the miter saw so I do not use any of the 10" saw blades from the Shopsmith.

I have a 12" Hitachi compound sliding miter and I use it all the time
It's the one that doesn't need extra space behind it for the tubes if you don't want to extend
Them its awesome and the laser is easily adjusted. Bought mine a Lowes $399. Very precise saw.

Just my two cents

Ok, Saw was original $569. Marked down to $499 last week. Walk into the store yesterday and see it on sale for $399. Hmmmm. I need to investigate this purchase. (reason for my post yesterday) I decide tonight to pull the trigger. I get in my truck and remember "I am going to give the HF 20% off a try" so back into the house to get one out of a magazine. Off to HD I go.
I get the saw, walk to the register and would you know the old cashier that worked at HF is now a cashier at HD. I say "Do you take the 20% off coupon" SURE! So that knocked off another $79 bucks.
After I used all my gift cards stacking up since last Christmas, Birthdays etc...$199. out of my pocket. :)
Oh, it gets better. So I'm telling my Mother what a deal I got on a new saw. She has a hard time getting out to shop for Christmas so said "Please, Please, Please let me give you a check for the balance". I will then have my Christmas shopping done. :D

Just a note about the 20% off coupon.
I have been involved in retail for over 20 years. For a store to accept a flat % off coupon from a store that does not even sell the same thing you are buying is WAY OVER THE TOP for them to do. If they had said no, I was just going to say "Thank you" and make my purchase. I am willing to bet that corporate would say "No" So if your store manager says no, PLEASE! don't call corporate and complain. Just try another store. It may ruin it for good.
