Hi All,
I have been looking around for this problem but can't seem to find the answer.
When using my SS 510 the last time I noticed that when dialing up to the high speed the RPM's seem very slow.
I found instructions on how to adjust the high speed and when doing so the RPM's are still not as fast as they where and I also noticed that the belt on the lower sheave is right at the edge and not 1/16 or 1/8th from the edge.
Am I missing another adjustment?
Thanks for any help.
-John

Since the high speed adjustment is made with the belt just inside the outer edge of the lower sheave and that adjustment limits resultant movement further out, the situation you described does not make sense.
All that assumes a proper size belt which is wider than 1/2" at the top. If the belt is too narrow, it will track further down into the control sheave which will reduce(nay that is basackwards):o the speed, and perhaps cause the idler sheave to bottom out thus causing the motor pulley to slip.
I must mention that both sheaves MUST be sufficiently lubricated for proper speed control operation as well as a proper sized belt.
The rest is more likely.

Afterthought:
I would check to see if the poly-v belt is 'loose/slipping'. That would be 'another adjustment'.

Thanks JP - I'll check this all out again. Now that I think about it I might have the high speed adjustment wrong. I adjusted the controller stop just before it would hit the upper sheave. This might have caused the belt to be out to the edge on the bottom sheave.
I'll check all what you suggested tomorrow.
Thanks - John

My guess is floating sheave bottoming out.johnabe wrote:OK checked all the belts and readjusted the speed control. Not sure what the problem wasbut everything is in working order.

I make it a point to run the speed up and down (to extremes) on a regular basis. Sometimes, with two Mark Vs, the 520 may remain in saw mode for months. I have had the sheaves seem to lock in place, almost impossible to change speeds. To avoid that, I have adopted this routine. It seems to work.JPG40504 wrote:My guess is floating sheave bottoming out.

Scrapes the crud out before it 'sets'. Good idea!!!!!!dusty wrote:I make it a point to run the speed up and down (to extremes) on a regular basis. Tis easy to forget the spring pushing the floating sheave controls the resulting drive belt tension.
