I'm not a bird person, but that is a pretty bird. What kind is it?

The more I hear, the more I'm impressed with "birding people."

One guy at my work centers all his vacation trips around seasonal rare sightings of birds. The facts he knows about birds are amazing.

Here is one of my earliest Shopsmith projects. It's a box for my in-laws from overseas. The Faravahar "bird" is the symbol of the very old Zoroastrian religion which was dominant in Iran prior to the Islamic conquest. The Good Thoughts / Good Words / Good Deeds themes are emphasized in the 3 rows of feathers, etc.

I think it is a Cooper's Hawk. Haven't had time to check that out with some web pictures but I know that is what we have been calling them.

My bird feeders are a cheap source of entertainment for me. Woodpeckers, nuthatches, red wing blackbirds, cardinals, mourning doves all seem to get along with the sparrows, wrens, and finches. Cooper's Hawkslike to take mice and chipmunks to dinner (as the main course). I think they also like pigeon as well.

It is a coop. I am a regular birder here in Willcox and see them regularly. I also lead birding trips during our Wings over Willcox celebration during MLK weekend.
