Bandsaw compatibility
Is a Mark V manufactured in 1989 compatible with a ShopSmith bandsaw built in 1979?

The only 'exceptions' are a model 10E or 10ER. With the Mark 5 the SPT's were conceived and are 'compatible' to all variations since.
The considerations are mounting and power hookup. Those areas have not changed.

10ER compatibility question
I've seen emphatic "no" and emphatic "yes" answers to the question whether the 10ER will work with the bandsaw. There are definitely 10ERs running bandsaws. Are they running different, 10ER-specific bandsaws, or do they in fact run with the bandsaws currently being sold? Anybody know for sure? I'd sure like a bandsaw for my 10ER.

If you join the 10ER group on Yahoo, you can look through the files there and locate a wooden adapter someone made that will enable you to mount Shopsmith Special Purpose Tools, including the bandsaw, on the 10ER. Metal adapters made by Shopsmith years ago also might be available via E-bay but are rare.

Hi Rick:
There are adapters available from third party folks to use Mark V items on a 10-ER. Ebay is one source. There are also some folks that make their own adapters. Using the "search" function on this forum should give you some discussions and pictures of them.
I have not paid much attention to them since I have no plans to use any of them on my 10-ER. I have the SS disease bad enough that I have plenty of Mark V's and Mark VII's for that.
One small surprise I got when I bought my 10-ER was how much heavier it is than the Mark V's. I had been loading Mark V's and the 10-ER made me grunt.
I would highly recommend the 10-ER list on Yahoo (in addition to, not instead of) this forum. I am currently sat as "no mail" there right now but I like to jump back on there as active now and then so I like to stay as a member. Skip runs a great list.

'Stock' Model 10 - NO!;) <<<<<< However there are(rarely encountered) adapters that I think Magna Engineering did manufacture.
'Modified' Model 10 - Anything 'possible' with a mod that will work!

KEY WORD: "short list"
No mounting holes to put the post in and no left side 5/8" spindle.
