These "pill" boxes were about to trashed but like a lot of us trash hounds I figured they would be good for something in the shop. They are now destined to be small part storage and disassemble part holders.

My Father-in-law had collected ice cube trays, must be 30 or so of them, then made a cabinet with ice cube size shelving to hold them all. Another idea for those in the need of small part storage on the cheap.

I have long been fond of old muffin tins. I especially liked them when tearing an engine down or even dismantling a carburetor etc.
My wife and grandkids are big on Nestles Quick. Those yellow containers work great sitting on a shelf like a row of books. I write down the end also like a book spine. For many things I "Shoe-goo" a sample of what is in the container to the end of it as well.
I also like the clear peanut butter jars. The new ones bounce better when dropped than the old glass ones did.
Another handy item for me is the shallow cardboard base box that my Propel Zero comes in. I use them a lot for tossing a small handful of tools in one to sit in the truck cab or the golf cart for a job away from the shop. As small tools migrate into the house (elves) my wife puts them in one and sits it on a shelf in the mud hall for me to take them back to the shop.

I use old coffee cans too for parts. And for larger pieces I use storage bins and gamma seals with the dividers inside.
To stay organized once I have a bin full I take a picture of all of the items inside spread out on the floor and stick the picture on the outside of the container. Much easier to see a picture than reading all the parts that are in there:)

I use peanut butter jars - many of them. I also have a small collection of plastic jars that I bought at a store called the "Container Store" in Dallas. The problem was that once we left Dallas, I could not find additional containers to match.
Peanut butter jars have become my major storage method for small parts.
I also keep items such as the arbors in those jars with a dissecant bag.

I picked up a couple of these years ago for a couple of bucks at garage sales and used them in the shoe repair shop for the half zillion kinds and sizes of ladies heel taps I had to stock.

Tackle boxes in general are excellent at storing small parts since that is what they are designed for. They can also often be bought for a buck or two at garage sales. They are usually common at pawn shops too.
