How does a post get rated? I notice some posts have stars assigned.

As you read this, look at the red tool bar directly above. On the right hand side of that Tool Bar, click on Rate Thread. The rest, I believe, is self explanatory. You are rating the thread and not the post. I rated the thread with three stars (as an example). If you disagree with 3 stars, rate it differently and see what happens.
