Outdoor kitchens seem to be very popular nowadays. Great for me I need the work. Lets fine even more places to place kitchens.
I had a request for a small cabinet made of cypress. It will set between brick columns about 10 feet under a covered porch. It is only 25 3/4 inches tall as some type of cook top will set on it. I thought it would be a good project to have fun with and do some experimenting.

All I could find quickly is this 1 x 8 cypress still in the rough. We will have to clean it up ourselves.

I'll use the jointer to flatten one face and straighten one edge.

Then it is on to the planer. I want to clean it up at around 13/16".

Looks a lot like yellow pine.

And this is from the cutlist plugin that I have modified to my own simple design.
All the parts in blue are solid wood and the remainder are plywood.
You may have trouble figuring out my secret language in the description column though.

I like to start with the faceframe. I ripped these parts a little heavy on the Unisaw and now will sand them to final dimensions.

Just a touch under! Perfect that leaves room for glue.]
Just a touch under what? That looks like a skooch over 1 1/2" to me. What do I need to learn here?
Hmmm It looks like the caliper went to the floor along with the routers.
I'll be watching for the rest of this project. I always enjoy your presentations and I always learn something.
I like the fractional scales on your caliper dial. Mine is decimal. I had a choice and I think I chose wrong.

OOPS you are correct Dusty. That is what I get for holding the calipers upside down in my left hand and the camera in my right. Oh well it is close enough!

Thanks Mark; like Dusty I enjoy your presentations. Coupla questions. I love the sliding table saw/jointer/flip-up-planer. What is the model on that bad boy? I see the finished lumber leaning up against a 520. Did you use it for any part of the lumber cleanup? Are you happy with your Jet 22-44 sander? I was considering a 16-32 but I never talked to anyone who actually owned one to get their take. The reviews on Amazon and other sites are all over that place.

Exactly! In another thread someone was talking about cypress and charging what I felt was outragous prices for it and to me like you said it looks a lot like yellow pine. I know the price in the other thread was based on width and all but just be certain to understand when done whatever is made from it will be hard to tell from pine.
mbcabinetmaker is the cabinets going to be around a pool and pool chemicals? I have learned after 33 years of pool ownership that the chemicals will attack hardware big time. I now only use stainless around the pool and even then I have to replace it every 10 to 15 years sometimes more frequent than that.
