Interesting and Informative - Bandsaw Setup
This link takes you to a video clip that discusses general band saw setup. The video is only indirectly applicable to the Shopsmith bandsaw but anyone who is familiar with that band saw can use the information contained in the video.
If anything seems to contradict your experience with the Shopsmith Bandsaw, please bring it up for discussion here.

1. The upper wheel on the Shopsmith bandsaw can't be tilted, as on the Delta where you tilt the upper wheel in order to track the blade in the center of the wheel. On the Shopsmith the blade rides on the back of the wheel, held there by two support bearings.
2. The upper and lower support bearings on the Shopsmith are set differently than on the Delta where they don't touch the blade except when cutting. On the Shopsmith, the lower bearing is in constant contact with the blade, while the upper bearing is adjusted so that it only contacts the blade when cutting. There is a second bearing that is in constant contact with the blade that is located adjacent to the blade tension mechanism.
3. There was no reference to blade drift when adjusting the bandsaw fence.

My problem with the SS bandsaw set up has always been adjustment of the assembly as it is raised and lowered. I can always get the top bearing set properly at one height, but once I raise or lower the assembly, it is either in contact with the blade or too far back.
BTW: Aren't cool blocks meant to be in direct contact with the blade ? Not tight, of course, but not a "paper width" away either ?

Here again is my 'opinion'! https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=8542
Major Bob, you might find posts 5, 6, ... of interest.
The video was informational, but imho left out a lot of things. What was said was accurate for 'most' bandsaws, but we all know 'ours' is an exception.

Don't expect an asnwer. This guy I believe is really a spammer. Never anything specific to Shopsmith. Basically promoting some bandsaw blade and manual sellers.dusty wrote:It would be of great interest if you would share with us what you learned from the video that has changed your experience with the bandsaw.

He is now on my Ignore List. If he begins posting regularly and others are conversing with him, I will remore that.algale wrote:Don't expect an asnwer. This guy I believe is really a spammer. Never anything specific to Shopsmith. Basically promoting some bandsaw blade and manual sellers.
