Looking for a Shopsmith
Moderator: admin
I found mine on Craig's list. I saw 2 for sale up in your area about 3 weeks ago. Be patient and get a later model (510 or 520) like Chuck mentioned. By the way I live in Jacksoville, AL 36265. Not too far away! I am still learning how to use mine. Had great fun over Thanksgiving! Get the manuals and PTW (power tool woodworking manual). Tons of good info. Sawdust sessions on this web site are excellent as well. Please keep us posted on your search.

Hi, I've got a SS Mark 7 in Columbus GA available if you are still looking-
It needs a bit of work or a new part, but i think that is all part o fthe charm of these machines. This is a vintage one, and part of the beauty of these machines is the process of restoring them.
It is all functional except the aluminum casting of the tool rest carriage is broken on one side- I had a Dig-In on a large turning project. It could be welded by an experienced aluminum welder, or replaced.
Maybe someone here could answer this too- will a carriage for a Magna (or newer) Mark 5 fit these rails and accessories?
Motor works, Plastic Speed Cam is fully in-tact, reversible switches function, has original switch keys.
This Model also has the blower/dust collector, and does double tilt.
Does not still have retracting feet- they were missing when i got it.
I have most of the original basic equipment with it- sanding disc, table saw arbor, mystery arbor, jacobs chuck, aftermarket pen turning mandrel, aftermarket live center for turning, a 4-jaw turning chuck, table saw table with original fence, one end mounting table for the table saw or other accessories, tail mount for lathe.
let me know if anyone is interested.

Way tube spacing the same, but pinion gear(elevator) on opposite side of table support tubes. I think the carriage can be mounted reversed and the 'controls' reattached to the opposite side.
However, there are those rack gear teeth on the way tubes.

I have one in Columbus, GA.
It needs a part, but i have already located one on this forum- check out the maintenance section.
It is a Magna Mark 7. I have most all of the original basic equipment that came with it. I have also "rebuilt" - or cleaned and lubed the inner workings of the power head, and kept it in very good mechanical order. the sheaves work nicely, and the speed cam is in quite good condition. the motor spins both ways and the original switches are functioning. I have bought a higher capacity dedicated lathe, and am moving, and the wife says Ive got to clean out.
Let me know if anyone is interested.

What is displayed is certainly worth the $5000 asking price. It would almost be worth the drive to go get it even if all you were going to do is remarket it. I do believe that sold separately, one would recover all of his investment with a good ROI.
