So can I assume that the dude who had Mark VII before me did some repair on the pork chop component and then reversed the follower?

Thus he got frustrated with the possessed speed controller, didn't use it for 20 years, gave it to a friend to sell to me???

You sold me on your story, that as good unless you want to make in in to a mystery where the machine was taken to China and they stole the design but didn't miss the part being upside down and make a million machines of which none of them worked setting their economy back by 6 weeks.

The original machine they returned to the US and sold at a pawn shop for $500 to recoup for the million machines they had to use as dam building materials. Later that day it was sold and shipped to Andy Rooney as a gift but he did except it as it came at lunch time... in fact he said "you keep it" so the delivery man did for 7 years, his wife used it for an ironing board and was kept in the kitchen of their 4th floor apartment. The couple won the lottery and gave the machine to your friend, now I could go on and on but I do like your story being so simple and all so lets go with that.

Hmm,

I called Andy Rooney, but he is dead. Since this machine is over 40 years old, I think if the machine went overseas to be copied, it went to Japan in the 70's (but then it would be improved). Korea in the 80's, Taiwan in the 90's and maybe China in the 2000's. I guess I need a better timeline.

On a related note, I took off the side Shosmith badge to look at the pork chop and I see everything.

Do I have to take off the bottom to do the repair or can I do the repair from the side. The Pork Chop is held on by a single set screw?

Anyways, I did the repair. Turned the follower around.

Doesn't slip anymore.

Had to put a delrin washer between the dial and spring clamp as the dial has a little play that caused the springs which roll into the notches on the dial to be loosely set causing the speed to snap up one position higher every once and a while.

I get a little whining noise from the gear belt every once and a while. But not as often now as right after the repair.

If nothing else, I became aware of a better way to link to a specific post.

Rather than the narrow link to a specific post, get that post 'in view' and then create the link. That way the post is readily available, and more extensive perusal is available to anyone executing that link.(at least that is what I thought created it)

Problem is I do not know how to make it happen! I have encountered it since, but cannot seem to duplicate.

Anyone know how to make it happen?

I got it narrowed down by setting the page count/page in my profile then linking to 'that page'(I think that will work)
