I have enjoyed the elf pictures in between trying to complete a myriad of handmade gifts. The list includes Cabinets for wife's quilting room, a wall bracket for her current prized quilt, cabinets to raise the daughters front loading washer and dryer to a more comfortable height, Maple and Walnut bowls turned on the lathe, a coupe of pencils not to mention a hand full of unexpected repairs. The last several days have required breaks to blow snow and what seemed like endless hours in the dentist chair. I am sorry to report that although all projects are complete and I am relaxing with my bride this evening there are no pictures as the last items have finally been wrapped for tomorrows family gathering. I am thankful for family, decent health, the real reason for the season and that the shop floor has been cleaned up. Merry Christmas to each of those participating here. Jim

Very nice looking pens Joe. I have not turned any acrylic. How does it work on the lathe and how do you finish it? I tried some Corina once and did not care for turning it.

Its a little harder than wood, and if your not careful it gets hot and looks like it is melting. I was lucky that I did it at first and was able to clean it up. I just use 1,200 to 12,000 grit, then finish with Shellawax Liquid. I saw on a video to use a piece of newspaper to buff it. I tried it, but could not tell any difference. The acrylic puts off some pretty smelly fumes. I really like the way they finish.

Here's a small photo of a large platter I made a few weeks ago, and presented this AM; Northern Ash (Flamey) 13" diameter.

And a sterling silver/14kyg/golden topaz/chrysacolla pendant. The pendant was made from "FOUND" objects - the Chrysacolla I found while bicycle riding in AZ (stopped to Look at saguaros), and the silver was found silver gents nugget bracelet (I found on side of road while bicycling to work), and the golden topaz I found as a rough piece at the Syracuse Gem & Mineral show (I also facet). I melted the bracelet links and poured an ingot, rolled it out to form sheet silver, cut the leaf patterns, hollowed out a piece of mahogany to repousse (raise) the leaves up from behind, soldered and hand engraved. The center topaz shield swings on a removable silver bar.

As Jim mentioned it was great to see all the work shown in this thread.

I know I shouldn't say this, but I am envious of all the work put out turners. Joe's pens are a good example.

Let's hope the new year is filled with more great projects!
