Potpourri for January 2012

After retiring and doing the travel trailer thing we found that if we wanted to stay married we had to something different. So we started to look for a house where it don't snow in the winter. That is when fantasy's about a new shop started.
This is what I ended up with in the real world.

Sharing space with SWMBO's vehicle (she won't even let me drive it). I think no space is worse than a cluttered (no a working:D ) space.

I bet you do not worry about her 'intentionally' bumping yer stuff with the Bowling Green Ky local produce door when getting in/out.

Might be good to keep it away to keep peace however!:D

I have been in some 'worse' spaces! I assume you are not a 'plumber'.

P.S. You park a truck there also? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .tennis ball/rope!

Here's some evidence photos of the local Bird Feeder Bandit my bride took Friday morning. Do ya think they will hold up in court?

Funny you should notice the ball on a string. My bride of 43 years decided we no longer needed a 4WD SUV where it doesn't snow, sold it, and bought a Vette. Now the ball string is hooked to the top of the garage door. When the door opens the ball lowers and marks the vehicle stooping point when the door closes it raises the ball out of the way.
I was tired of walking into the ball.

Changing the subject, since all the Christmas toys are made and given, time to clean blades, tools, shop and do a little maintenance. Weather not suitable for gluing, painting or staining. So, tomorrow, I disassemble, clean, lube, spray some belt dressing on the belts, check it for any unsual noises, clean some more, reassemble and wax. Should hold until about mid summer. Hope to have the floor mirror completed by that time.

While temps are low, will do some deep cleaning in the house, like cleaning refrigerator coils, moving the heavy furniture to clean under, and prepare the garden soil for the soon coming spring. So, have plenty to keep busy. In the meantime, hoping to learn how to use a jig for dovetailing with a router. Anyone need some firewood?

Really I had just stained this step stool and raised the garage temp to speed up drying time.

I do love to watch squirrels however I use to have a yellow feeder that looks a lot like your blue one. We returned one afternoon and I noticed some yellow pieces in the snow below the feeder. When we finished putting things away I went back out to see what was under there. Seems the squirrels decided they didn't need those pegs hanging out and chewed them off, and while at that figured the holes would be bigger and let out more seed if they were chewed up a bit...

I hope yours is tougher then mine was. That feeder was sort of doomed from year one. I had put a covered rope over a branch and the feed was maybe 10 feet down hanging just so I could reach it for refills. It was fun watching the squirrel try to climb down the skinny rope, and having to give up because it could not be done. He won the next round, came to see what was going on and he and feeder were on the ground with most of the seeds gone. He simply chewed the cord off and let the feeder fall. Once on the ground he had a good meal.

Are your wife and my wife talking some how? I was informed we would be cleaning refrigerator coils tomorrow too! I think we maybe moving the gas range so I can plug the cord back in, last time when we cleaned I forgot to plug it back in and we have been without the clock and oven light for a while now. Wonder what else needs doing in the kitchen, I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

We also enjoy watching the squirrels, but they are also destructive little pests, given the chance. They really like chair seat stuffing to line their nest with
This feeder has been up for about 18 months or so...... Looked out one morning, a month or so after we first hung it, and the feeder was on the ground. A very clean cut of the plastic bail on top and a couple of nibble marks on the lid. The bail on it now is a bent coat hanger. This was the first evidence we had of a successful kritter getting to it. Think I'll dig through the cabinet and see if we don't have an old cheapie pie pan that I can put just above the hook on the bail.
Guess we'll find out if I can out smart a rodent

I quit many years ago. I can disappoint myself enough without them. My scrap pile is a testament to that.
