headstock sticking

headstock not sliding smoothly, seems to get hung-up and leaves marks on waytubes, tried waxing and rotating with no results:confused:

sounds like maybe you got "something" on the lock wedges.
1984 Mark V 500 and an early 1954 greenie. jointer, belt sander, bandsaw, jigsaw, planner.

Agreed. You might try pulling the headstock off & checking for grit/crud (not a technical term) on & around the lock wedges. If you have a compressor, blow that stuff off, blow out the headstock & lube it if you haven't done it in a while & put it back together. That'll probably do it.

What kind of wax do ya use? Maybe yours looks like this one.

SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.
