palm router
Looking to buy a palm router. Looked at a Bosch Colt single speed. the height adustment appears to be quite flimsly.
Porter cable and Dewalt appear to be the same router and height adust is not a fine adjustment.
Rigid has a variable speed for $100.00 and it looks good. Height adjustment is the best i have seen.. Although you need very small fingers to work it.
Looked at the reviews on Amozon but, as usual some say this one is junk and the other brand is so good.... not a lot of faith in those reviews.
So, i come here to see what you guys have had experience with. thanks

I have been using the Bosch Colt for a few years. The height adjustment needs to be tightened down very carefully and completely. When I rush I find myself getting sloppy results. If I take my time and get everything right it works very well. I do prefer this router in smaller projects due to its being lighter and smaller. Jimoldc6 wrote:Looking to buy a palm router. Dewalt and Porter Cable are the same company.
Porter Cable 450PK and the Dewalt DWP611PK are essentially the same router. Which color do you like the best.
I've recently been trying to make this same decision and decided I want the Dewalt DWP611PK. I like the kit because it's not only a palm router but a small plunge router as well.
I haven't bought one yet. I've been hoping to catch one on sale.

I had a Bosch Colt VS for several years an HATED he height adjustment. Sold it on e-bay. I bought the Dewalt combo kit last year and it is outstanding. I really like the plunge base as well.

If I ever get another router it will likely be the PC with plunge base. I use to be on a focus group sponsored by PC dealing with routers (free info for them but you got to input what you would like to see developed) I'm guessing that the router that resulted from that is the one now being offered.
Out of desperation for a smaller lighter plunge router I got the Trend T4 which works fine but is a little tall, if I had know the PC was come out soon I might have waited and spent the extra $60 on that. As it is I make do.
A lot really depends on what you hope to do with the router. I have a couple of trim routers with out plunge bases and they work fine for that but I want a plunge type for lettering and some of the smaller inlay stuff and smaller pattern routing.

I made my Bosch purchase based on the reviews rating in #1 at the time. So it has been at the top of the charts for a while. Still, I disliked it enough that I only used it as a last resort.
