I went on Craigslist to browse around half-heartedly for a band saw and ran across a Shopsmith for sale about 15 miles from my house. I had never heard of the machine before but was intrigued once I saw the photo of it. So, for the last two days I have been scouring the internet trying to get up to speed with the machine and what a fair value for it would be. Well after some searching around I decided to take a chance on this machine. I got all of the stuff included in the photo for $650 which is cool since I didn't have any clamps, etc. From the serial/model number I gather it is a Mark V, 510 built on Jan 11, 1989.
Model # 555510
Serial # 011189
It also came with the vacuum, joiner, and band saw. It seems to be in great shape. Tonight I will start cleaning and waxing it before putting it to use...looks like I'll be reading the maintenance threads for the best suggestions on that. Anyway, this looks like a great forum and I am excited about contributing to it, if I can. Reading the posts last night until 2am really convinced me what a great tool I now have and I am excited to put it to use. Oh...and is that a genuine Shopsmith apron that came with it? You bet it is!
