Last night after work I pulled my headstock apart again to re-attach the quill spring so that my quill would retract again, and wired up my power switch right-side-up (oops!), crossed my fingers, and turned the shopsmith on.
For the first time in probably 15-20 years she fired right up and purred like a kitten. I wasn't looking to do a full re-painting, perfectly polished restoration, I just wanted to de-rust it, clean it out, lube it up, and get it running again (I kinda like the rustic look of it actually). I'll probably get it sparkling clean in sections. I'm just antsy to get building right now.
I just wanted to say thank you to you all. I really couldn't have done it without the help of you guys, because I spent a lot of time here searching the forum, looking for information and pictures, and posting a few questions when I ran into a dead-end. Now a piece of my family's history will continue on in my care, and that's very important to me.
So again, thanks guys. This is going to be a fun journey, and I'm looking forward to being an active shopsmith forum member so that i can help someone else some day! Cheers!
