Hello Folks,
I had a bunch of "sale stuff" from RocklerWoodCraft begging to be used. I tried to do it all at once.
Shown here, it's about 1/2-way through the sanding & finishing process.
Materials from the sales included:
- Madrone Burl veneer on the top. It is bookmatched and the center is offset to the left. That's because of a screw-up.
- Cranberry-color water-based stain on the veneer.
- Yellow ("caxan" or something like that) small hardwood turning blank for the round handle. It began as a little bowl and then I sliced it on the bandsaw.
- Nice walnut (splitting everywhere) salvaged from a rickety homemade shelf I found at an antique store.
- Hinges are made from some 3/8" diameter Delrin plastic pins from a cassette deck parts bin.
- After initial wood cuts, I realized the box looked too tall, like a McMansion. So I kept slicing chamfers and dados until I couldn't change it much more.
My next project is to clean up the giant mess and put my new Casters on the Mark V.
Enjoy the winter,
Frankenstein Box
