If both parties were happy and thought the price was fair as the deal was made, then what was dishonorable about it? I share Dusty's opinion. I may be jealous of your friend's deal, but have no negative opinions of either of you.

If you looked at my postings you will fail to see any reflection on anyone's character. I merely stated what I did in a somewhat similar circumstance as this is my makeup and upbringing.

If I'm in such a minority here, in what to do in a situation like this, then I'm gone.

There have been many times I have offered less than the asking price. The seller can always say no.

Personally I see nothing wrong with what was done as long as each party was happy with the out come.

I do not think Dave was making reference to your post. He said they were PM"s and not public posts.

If my teasing you was offensive to you I apologize. I rather suspect that all parties involved with your friends transaction received exactly what was desired. It is difficult for me to criticize any situation where everyone comes out a winner. If there are those in PM's who are critical that would seem to me to be good reason for them to post privately. Although it seems sad to me when negative posts are sent that reflect badly on the rest of the group. Jim

Wow, this went off the rails in a terrible way

It was a great deal and I am happy that your friend got it and it gets to stay as a shpsmith and not scrap metal. The seller who didn't want it got some extra cash = awesome.

It was an agreed upon deal and it seemed as if both parties were happy so what is the problem

Seems like a good deal to me.

Like 8iowa I have gotten way to good of a deal and given more than the agreed upon price, no big deal it was my "thing" to do but I would not expect (nor encourage) anyone to do what I do (do your own thing and be true to yourself). I have also offered to do the same and been turned down with a very kind "thanks but we made the deal already and I'm happy with it"

For people to PM mean comments about it is just wrong and it is incredulous to me that most of the people that I deal with on this forum would do such things.

I certainly would not want you to avoid coming hear and enjoying what this site has to offer like you have done for so long.You always have good info to provide us and this forum needs to keep and attract as many members as they can of your caliber.

I did not have a problem with anything anyone posted on the open forum and for the record, no one who posted on my thread contacted me off the open forum.

My choice to delete my photos and comments was based on what was stated elsewhere and since I didn't know how many other members felt this way, I felt it best to just delete my posts.

I now feel that I made a mistake in actions taken and should have just let the issue stay off the open forum. For this I most apologize.

I have learned another valuable lesson today.

Thanks to all who commented and lets get back to what makes this forum so special.

1) As you stated, neither your friend nor the seller had a clue!

2) They both acted in good faith and came to an agreement.

3) Although you were present and were aware of the 'true' value, you were not actively involved. I do not recall you saying either one asked for your opinion.

4) I see 8iowa's point and generally agree with his action described, but he was an active participant who knew the 'true' value of what he was purchasing. Your friend as you said, had not a clue.

5) Therefore I consider ignorance as a justifiable 'excuse'.(if one is even necessary)

6) Now as for those who chose to chastise 'privately', I say why the hiding? What did you have to say that cannot stand the light of public exposure?

7) I cannot understand a response that includes I am leaving and not coming back. Burning bridges is rarely a good move IMHO.

8) I will be the last to feel offended by someone else's opinion. I may not agree, but respect another's right to a differing opinion. However I retain the option of attempting to enlighten them!

9) Emotions cause us to react illogically to what we perceive as a personal attack. Those emotions will get us in trouble most of the time. When experiencing those negative emotions, it is best to back away and take some more 'looks' at the situation.

10) Personal honesty with one's self goes a long way towards avoiding inappropriate reactions to what we perceive as 'personal' attacks.
