[quote="JPG40504"]1) As you stated, neither your friend nor the seller had a clue!
2) They both acted in good faith and came to an agreement.
3) Although you were present and were aware of the 'true' value, you were not actively involved. I do not recall you saying either one asked for your opinion.
4) I see 8iowa's point and generally agree with his action described, but he was an active participant who knew the 'true' value of what he was purchasing. Your friend as you said, had not a clue.

5) Therefore I consider ignorance as a justifiable 'excuse'.(if one is even necessary)
6) Now as for those who chose to chastise 'privately', I say why the hiding? What did you have to say that cannot stand the light of public exposure?
7) I cannot understand a response that includes I am leaving and not coming back. Burning bridges is rarely a good move IMHO.
8) I will be the last to feel offended by someone else's opinion. I may not agree, but respect another's right to a differing opinion. However I retain the option of attempting to enlighten them!
9) Emotions cause us to react illogically to what we perceive as a personal attack. Those emotions will get us in trouble most of the time. When experiencing those negative emotions, it is best to back away and take some more 'looks' at the situation.
10) Personal honesty with one's self goes a long way towards avoiding inappropriate reactions to what we perceive as 'personal' attacks.
Human frailty as I see it!]
I completely agree with your assessment JPG. I did see the original posts and only felt happiness for his friend's good fortune. He asked how much was the asking price and received an answer and followed through with the purchase. Nothing wrong with that. The fact that she was a widow has no bearing on the sale. If you personally feel like 8Iowa that it isn't proper to pay what she asked for it is your option to offer more but by no means is that mandatory. If she was not a widow would the circumstances be different?
I ran into a crazy good deal last year. I forwarded the jigsaw manual to someone here on the forum who then told me that the gentleman who sold it to him had a DC 3300 for $30 and gave me his number. When I went to look at it I also found a 84 Mark V that he also wanted to unload. I wasn't looking for another Mark V but when he said he only wanted $85 for it I couldn't say no. He and his wife were both retired and moving to Florida and we're trying to clean out everything before they went down there. My wife was with me and I could barely keep my mouth shut. She said just be quiet and load the stuff up. Even she said it would be stupid not to buy it at that price. It also came a a bunch of extras.
I don't feel at all bad about it. He asked me if I was interested and told me how much he wanted and I agreed. Everybody was happy just like the OP's story so nothing wrong with the outcome in the least. Anyone sending PM's chastising him about this deal is not being realistic and should be posting their opinion openly on this forum. That is why they call this an open forum. I may not have agreed with their opinion but would have respected it completely.
Judas you should in no way have felt that you needed to remove your post. You nor your friend did anything wrong or unsavory and you should not feel any guilt at all for your actions PERIOD! And that is MY opinion like it or not. And now back to our regularly scheduled program!

no harm, no foul
Come on, I know of guys on here who have had SSs given to them!! And they knew what they were worth. I think the biggest problem I have with any of this is sheer jealousy!! And I bought my 510 for $75 so who am I to complain? (Of course, by the time I got the stuff it was missing, the price grew somewhat).
