Fence on cast iron bandsaw?????
I am sure someone here has installed a fence on an older cast iron band saw table. I would like some feed back and possibly some pictures.

I remember seeing someone who had gotten the standard kreg bandsaw fence and attached it to their cast-iron table. Not the shopsmith branded one, just the regular one that you can get anywhere.mbcabinetmaker wrote:I am sure someone here has installed a fence on an older cast iron band saw table. I think I found it!
I remembered that post also. Finally found it by searching for Carter rather than Kreg products:

For a fence on the Shopsmith and other bandsaws, I've used a 24 inch double sided clamping straight edge guide (back-to-back clamp guide). A single sided clamp guide works, but the double sided one allows you to clamp an "L" shaped auxiliary fence to the top side for a taller "resaw" fence. I use two combination squares, one at the front of the bandsaw table and one at the back, to align the straight edge to the blade.

I was lucky enough to get a Kreg miter gauge when they would still mod them for Shopsmith. Their fence is 24" wide and is adjustable. Plenty for the band saw. Before, I just screwed on a long board to the SS stock gauge.

I just use the miter gauge as a fence on my cast iron band saw table. Just lock it in the appropriate slot. And if you need a little more length, just attach a board to the face of the miter gauge. Easy, simple, and nothing else to hang up on the wall.mbcabinetmaker wrote:I am sure someone here has installed a fence on an older cast iron band saw table. Will the extrusion mount to the back side as well?(eliminates the blade change dilemma)SDSSmith wrote:Miter gauge works fine, but you can mod a 500 fence and rail to mount like this....

I have the Kreg bandsaw fence not the one SS sells bt the retail version. I bought it when I got my bandsaw because it did not come with a fence. I was able to install the Kreg fence on the cast iron table but it wasn't an easy task. I had to use some aluminum L-channel and bolted that to the cast iron table then mounted the Kreg fence to the aluminum L-Channel. Also had to add some extra screws to stiffen up the fence because it is heavy and the L-Channel was flexing. It worked fine but I wanted the aluminum table and when it went on sale I got the aluminum table retrofit kit and mounted the Kreg fence to that. There was slightly more material on the table edge to drill and tap for mounting holes but I still have not been able to get the fence carriage to sit flush with the table it sits proud of the table edge by about 1/16th of an inch. Doesn't really cause any issues but it bugs the crap out of me. I would love to see some pics of someone who has the SS version of the Kreg fence installed so i can see their version/solution.
