I have a Power Pro Question

Well, I finally completed my Power Pro upgrade. I received one of the first ten Power Pros but my 520 is buried in my basement until our home renovation is finished.

I had just a couple of problems. The 2-part countersink bit worked fine for the first 3-4 holes and then I couldn't tighten up the Allen set screws on the countersink tight enough as the cutter rotated revolved around the shaft, so I simply took a pair of vice grips to grab the cutter and finish countersinking the holes manually.

The ground wire was too short. I didn't realize it until I was putting the motor in. So I cut the tie-wrap holding the ground wire and stripped back 4-6 inches of insulation rather than pull the control assy back out of the headstock and shorten the white & black wires.

I have a type C headstock which uses a plastic power switch that was not mentioned either in the instruction book or the video. Are these power switches as tough as the toggle switches?

I only bought this 510 yesterday. I used my 30-gallon compressor to blow out all the dust, but left the covers on the headstock which was made in 9/1991. It looked almost brand new from the outside, but when I took the motor cover & belt cover off this morning, it had that fine dust & oil mixture Nick Engler had a special word for that I can't remember right now. Couldn't resist it since it came with an Incra set up, Mark V mounted planer with extra blades (I have a stand alone), a jointer, and a couple bags/boxes of other stuff and another new copy of PTWFE.

Oh, my Shopsmith plate had a Phillips screw securing on the bottom and a round clip on the top stud. The clip fell off & I have no idea where it went. I think we should have a new cover/plate "Shopsmith Mark 7" for those of us with the double tilt & the Power Pro upgrade.

At 9500 rpm it is noisy. I'm not sure if that is normal or not.

I couldn't get the DVD to work this morning. Had this same problem back in 9/2010. But I watched it a few days ago with no problem. I had a heck of a time getting the eccentric to fit the new idler shaft assy which now has two bearings on it. Well it was a couple hours later & I tried the DVD again & it worked! It's amazing how I kept thinking of "monkey see; monkey do..."<smile>

I'm wondering what issues I should look for as I understand the first 18 Power Pros were sent out with incorrect calibration data which is programmable using the control panel. My control unit or motor has an orange label dated 9/1/2010. I spoke to Wes a year or so ago & he told me to simply call him when I have the Power Pro installed. So I left a message for him on Friday.
