Post by meathook »

I am trying to identify a few items I that came with the 520 I bought a few years ago. I don't believe these items are SS. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank You!

No relation to Shopsmith except for ingenuity. It is called a zyliss vice. I have two and find them extremely handy. If memory serves Dusty also makes great use of them. Jim

Thanks Jim! I see where some of my items look like the vice you mention, but the largest piece only has two screw clamps, there is no drawbar (or vice screw) This clamping portion rotates (or angles) using two clamping bolts (hidden in my photo)

Looks like the attachments that go with a zyliss style vise, but I do not see the vise in your picture. None of my vises have the clamps like the 2 in the lower left corner of the pic.

Thanks Rob! I looked at the Z-vice site and do indeed see the turntable, end stop, and turning centers I have. I am not certain the clamps you in my photo even go with this tool.

Does the clamp in the lower right hand of the photo look like anything you have? I couldn't find anythin like it on the Z-Vice website.

The clamp in the lower right looks like it is from vice shopsmith sells.

That should teach me to look closer. There are parts that belong to the Zyliss vice there. Plus three parts that you mention I have never seen and actually do not look related. I have been told Zyliss has recently released a new more interesting version. I have not yet seen it, if that info is in fact accurate and have no idea how it may have been changed. I need to suggest there are parts missing and three pieces that may not belong. Sorry. Jim

Thank You Ed and Jim!

Jim - no apologies necessary, your info was a big help!

Ed - now if I can find someone who needs that part of the shopsmith vice....

Now I only need to identify the the two clamps in the lower left hand corner of the photo. They are marked "Made in USA" and have a patent #, so I will see if I can research the patent number and go from there.

Thanks again to all of you!

I think that the three upper pieces are zyliss bench vise knock offs. Worth keeping around for their possible future value (usefulness).

The piece un the lower right is definitely part of the Shopsmith vise as Ed reported. Worth keeping around for their possible future value (usefulness).

The piece lower right is definitely from the Shopsmith Vise as Ed reported. Worth keeping around for their possible future value (usefulness).

The other two look interesting. Bidirectional screw clamps with a hinge feature. Definitely Worth keeping around for their future value (usefulness).
