Couple Hub Protective Piece on Belt Cover

I noticed on the belt covers of some Shopsmiths have what looks to be a protective cover attached to the side belt cover over the two coupler hubs. Does anyone have a part number? Thanks. Was it part of a mod? I've never seen it in a catalog. Well none of us have seen a paper catalog since April 2008. I sure looked forward to reading over each page. It's just not the same looking at a .pdf file as I can make notes, or make big circles in RED to give my wife some hints of things I liked... Know what I mean?

I asked the question the first time I saw it. There was a debate on the forum on why anyone would need one, I admitted hitting the hubs more than once. When I checked it was not available because the required holes to install it were not in the casting but that was a while ago.

Yes, I do know what you mean. I yearn for a new catalog.

As for the guard - I seem to remember that it came into existence to satisfy European or Canadian safety requirements. It also seems to me that I saw it displayed on a recent Mark image.

I called but rather than get anyone, I use the company directory and spoke with Jan.

The part is called a Shaft Guard and was required for Shopsmiths sold in Europe where people might catch long sleeves on hair in the shafts... People do the darnedest things...

It is called a Shaft Guard Kit, p/n 522398 ( it doesn't show up when I search on the part number. It's only 9.87 plus shipping. Well now I know...

But are there instalation instructions for an existing US Shopsmith or does it only fit on new machines that already come with one.

Installation Instructions? Drill two holes (of proper size) in proper location and attach with two screws (probably provided).
