It's finally happened

Today I placed my order for my first real woodshop to be built.
It will be 16 X 24.

If the weather warms up above 37 degrees I could be setting
All my tools in it in about 2 weeks.

I will finally have the room. no more corners of basements or having no set place to
Keep my tools no more working out of boxes.

Whoo!

Just had to share.

Congrats... That should be fun. That is big enough to work well in and small enough to be organized.

Nice..... You'll really like having a shop...

My Son and I built a 30X30 shop a few years ago. Now, we're wishing we would've built a 40X40.

At times 16'X24' will seem almost too big. At other times a 100'X200' would seem too small...

I owned and operated (along with other businesses) a shoe repair shop for over 20 years. Like a wood shop I had a lot of large heavy equipment and a zillion small tools. I moved it a half dozen times over those years as circumstances changed. One of the most efficient shops I had was the smallest one because it forced me to be efficient and tidy. Two of the worst shops were the largest. I had all kinds of space to waste and I did tend to waste it. They also had large "back room" storage areas and elves carted in all manner of crap during the nights.

I just walled off a 24'X40' room in my basement for my wood shop. I'm quite determined to keep it as clear and open as possible. I think that it will be easier to keep clean since having it in the house I can walk down there and putter any time I please regardless of weather. One thing helping so far is that I get up much earlier than my wife now and don't want to wake her. As a result I go down and do stuff like put things away and sweep the floor during those early hours. It gives me time to plan improvements etc. in the quiet too. This morning I swept a bit then moved some stuff around and positioned a couple of sheets of sheet goods ready to use them after breakfast. I kind of enjoy the quiet time. After breakfast I will be sawing and banging away.
I warned her early on that if I "get into something" that she may have to migrate out to the west wing if she wants to sleep in.

So far she says that she never hears me when I am down there in the middle of the night.

Congratulations on your achievement. You are really going to enjoy it. Plan on doing some cleaning in my 24 X 24 garage so I can move about more easily. Organization gives more space and productivity.

Yup! Safety is the ultimate point for organization, but I like the ability to find everything quickly as it is it's proper place. Thanks for the timely reminder.
