Ed,
I did my homework and spoke with Incra tech support Neil & Perry and we learned I have the new & improved TS-III which came on a used 510 I bought a couple of weeks ago. Otherwise I would of had to get upgraded. I learned by going to the Incra site, they directed me to "Where to Buy" which actually has Incra.com as a seller. For $269 they sell the Wonder Fence kit , which includes the right angle adapter, the stop, the book & templates and a DVD as a kit. Shopsmith sells the Incra Ultmate Fence/Router System for over $970- ouch! Then I went to http://www.toolnut.com and they got me the same router Wonder Fence kit for $250 which included shipping.

Two weeks ago someone on Craigslist was selling an Incra router table system for $150 or something like that and it would of mounted to my stand alone OPR, but he wanted $70 for shipping. Incra said it should of been no more than $20-30 at the most to ship. Some people get greedy in overcharging for shipping. Such is life. But it's good to do homework there too.

Find out the sizes, weight, zip codes and you can calculate the shipping costs and figure out what is fair yourself. Ebay is another place for excessive shipping charges and "handling". My first purchase on Ebay was for a set of 4 new tires and OEM wheels for my Jaguar. It's not really a Jaguar except for the Leaper on the hood- it's an X-type ( actually a European ford chassis with all wheel drive). I put a bid in the last 20 seconds for $400 and it won! The seller made the mistake of telling me the weight & etc and then tried to get an extra $100 from me, but I told him to recheck his math and implied my feedback might be effected by what he found out. He immediately apologized to me & I got a fantastic deal on alloy wheels with brand new rubber on them. But to be realistic too, many parts of the Shopsmith weigh a ton and that will drive up cost or items like the way/bench tubes. UPS charges a premium over a certain length.

I have my own FedEx account which gets me a discount. I bought a router table from one of the other forum member with 520 rails & simply emailed him a prepaid shipping label on Saturday. He was nice enough to break it down, pack it , & ship it. But that is like most forum members here- they are willing to help each other out when they can. I received a private message and he made me a fair offer I couldn't refuse. He figured it would cost $25 to ship. It would of, but my discount brought it down to $23 and change which included $350 in insurance as FedEx Ground has broken things on me.

So I insure everything as this FedEx driver was probably chewed out after I reported him. I actually saw the driver kick the box with my Shopsmith Power Station in it out the side door of his truck onto the concrete. The Power Station was packed well, but the heavy motor damaged some things. I forget what all was damaged, but it as insured and the bent/deformed parts were replaced. But he could of done it the right way. But he didn't care & probably still doesn't. Se la vie.

What also didn't help was the driver said delivery was attempted twice before & not a FedEx truck was in my housing area those two days. I had my laptop while waiting when a FedEx email update notice came stating delivery had just been attempted, but no one was home- he was either lost or just making it up. The next delivery attempt, I was on the front porch again, and on the phone with FedEX when the agent told me the FedEx truck was just there & I told her we were on the phone the entire time and no truck ever showed up. But it did on the third attempt & that's when he kicked it out the side door & left.

Sorry to hear about the sniper. But you might try your luck with Craig's List- but then you never know and there is no recourse to my knowledge if someone ships you a rock instead of wood working tool. But like Ed says, do your homework. Incra has a fantastic technical department who answered my every question concern and helped me go completely over the TS-III.

Look at the timing. Two bidders in the last 20 seconds. One bid barely high enough. Beat the other out by less than a quarter on a $100+ item. They both were not aggressive enough to assure getting it(Barely over $5 above previous bid).

Sniping beats a bidding war! JMHO!

P.S. some folks let a computer do it for them! Now that ain't fair!

I try sniping on most auctions. Doesn't get you a bargain imo, as there are no more bargains on ebay except by fluke. It's just a means of getting something you want at not too much over actual value. I view it as 'sealed tender'. :)

What kicks the price too high is when 2 or more early bidders get into contest mode, a pretty standard SS500 went here for over £800 eek! (usually £300 or less.) A snipe bid with say 5 seconds to go not only leaves the other bidders no time to bid, it has the advantage of not allowing you bid again either, so no temptation go 'just a bit further'.

There are ways to beat these guys but you have to be there to do so. I let myself get wrapped up with something else and missed out - otherwise I would be the proud new owner.

Bargain or no bargain is a judgement cal (an opinion). If I can't get a bargain, I buy new.

I usually end up buying new nowadays. Mostly from Amazon if they stock the item. The way I figure it, some ebay sellers can only compete on price by shipping counterfeits, and afaik, Amazon only ships genuine stuff.

I'd like to buy new SS stuff but Shopsmith doesn't ship here, so it's snipe an auction, pay the high shipping costs and hope it's fit for service.

I agree with reible, the Incra site is confusing. Are there college courses for prospective Incra customers? :)
