I know this has been discussed & cussed over and over.
I just run across this update.

Public comment deadline extended again

The Consumer Product Safety Commission added 30 days for public comment on its proposed table saw safety standard.

The commission is considering whether a new performance safety standard is needed to address an unreasonable risk of injury associated with table saws. The standard could require manufacturers to put a SawStop or similar safety device on their saws.

The Power Tool Institute, a group of table saw manufacturers that opposes the standard, requested the extension. The new deadline is March 30.

The commission is inviting written comments concerning the risk of injury associated with table saw blade contact, regulatory alternatives and other possible means to address this issue.

IMHO, it is not our governments job to protect us from ourselves. They should but out!

No to derailed this post but is there a dictionary of expressions used on the internet like :

"IMHO"

and others that I see ?
I would appreciate.

For the rest, I do not think my 'Canadian' views would be appreciated or noted.
When using a tool any tool electric, or not, I do not think of anything else than what I am doing.

I might be very wrong but I think you have the wrong Docket number.
The Docket number for Tablesaw blade contact injuries is [Docket No. CPSC-2011-0074]

The one you listed if for something about Nuclear Reg commission.

Don't worry, be happy.

After Big Brother makes us all purchase electric cars there won't be enough juice on the grid to power up the the old saw anyway. Besides, even if you could turn the saw on, you would not be able to see the cutting line with your required safety helmet and flack face shield in position. And those anti-splinter gloves make holding the wood in place a real chore.

This may be a bit on the extreme side but the fact is Government control is definitely on the rise. The President has been accused of wanting fossil fuel costs to be high - that makes alternative fuels seem more attractive. That seems to be working but the only place I have seen alternative energy on the rise has been in Government controlled facilities.

I understand that Davis Monthan Air Force Base is nearing the point where they can disconnect from the grid.

That will be good (from a defence point of view) but what happens when the local power company begins to feel that major decrease in revenue. I expect my electric rate (not consumption) to spike. The Power Company WILL survive.

Last night my wife and I went over to the next county seat town east of us (Rushville IN) to meet with one of her brothers and his wife for supper at a restaurant there. On the way there an oncoming car drifted rather quickly across the center line coming straight at us. At the last minute he swerved quickly back into his lane. I am quite sure that he had his head down texting.

Now there is something I would like to be protected from. His stupidity there could have easily killed all 3 of us...

What I do silly in my own shop that isn't all that likely to be fatal... not so much.

I guess our brakes were due for a good testing anyway.
