Painting support tubes?

Good day, I am in the process of resurrecting my Mk V after several years of idleness. Naturally the tubes are the first thing to go.

Is there any reason not to paint the lower support tubes?

I can't think of any function that will be impaired by painting the lower support tubes on a Mark V. But if you do a little poking around on this site I think you will find that the tubes can usually be restored quite nicely using any one of several different techniques and the end result will be more aesthetically pleasing than painted tubes.

They were painted a silver color on greenies and goldies originally.

Which probably explains why most greenies I see for sale (including my 56) have severely rusted lower tubes, with decent way tubes above.

The base material(steel) is also different.(AIUI)

Also those who waxed the way tubes probably did not wax the bench tubes.
