What year was your Greenie born? Read the 1st post before voting

My other Greenie that I turned into a mini is Serial number 359411.
This shows as November of 59 but... I cant enter it into the poll as I am only allowed one entry.

I have had this unit about 3 years and it runs good. I have used it as a replacement headstock when the motor in my 'new' (1988) headstock went south.

Well I just picked up another greenie. This one is SN 316013 which looks like December of 1955. Since I can't add this info to the poll, I did add it my signature line. I paid $50.00 for it and it is in really rough shape, but had a few items that I can use such as the casters, carriage and table, rip fence, and extension table. Everything was rusted and stuck solid but after getting in home I was able at least to get the motor and spindle to turn by hand. Adding this stuff to the freebie I picked up last year, I should be able to put together one complete greenie. I haven't had time to work on the last machine for awhile, but now I think I will be getting back to work on these last two. I will post a couple pictures when I find the camera. John McCrossen

I got my Greenie back about 1988. This one is SN 273122. I got it at a household auction with a jig saw. Don't remember what I paid for it but $250 sticks in my head. Thought it was a good buy at the time. I don't know how much longer I will have it as I picked up a 1986 Mark V 500 with a band saw, joiner, belt sander, shaper, and planer for a very good price. I haven't decided yet what I going to do with the greenie yet, might make a mini out of it to run some of the accessories. Mark.

My only concern is the table carriage has a slight crack in it and was repaired using a mending plate (sometime in the sixties from the age of the bolts). Does anyone know if this part is still available it isn't listed on shopsmith's site as a service part, or will a newer part fit?

E-bay! A 'current' 500 carriage will work(but without the battering ram spacer bolt). i.e. any Greenie/Goldie/500 carriage will do. A spacer works better than the bolt anyway!

However if the 'fix' has been adequate for close to a half century, why change it?

P.S. Do NOT adjust the speed control without it running! If it is 'stiff' or sluggish adjusting towards fast, lubricate the sheaves ASAP! See posts at top of the Maintenance and Repair forum.

Wait for an inexpensive replacement!

The vent plate has no SN and apparently doesn't belong to this unit anyway.

I believe it was used internally by Shopsmith. It does not have an access hole and has a nut on the drive shaft. Based on earlier posts this greenie was made before 1955.
