Everything old is new again. Saw something like this years ago, not to say your idea isn't brilliant... it is! Great ideas seem to happen all over the place. Great shot, by the way. gives a clear story with no words needed.

Because a Bernoulli log spiral was used to make the template.

I think that was the question. Why did you use the Bernoulli Logarithmic Spiral rather than any other curve. Maybe the answer is as simple as "That is the curve template that I had handy when I needed it".
I would have used the one and only french curve template I have in the shop. Bernoulli or No.

Because I wanted the distance to get smaller inbetween the two clamps by a logarithmic factor as they rotated. I just thought it would be the best approach. The spiral I used was actually a Bernoulli spiral that also satisfied the 'golden ratio'. It expanded outward by a factor of the golden ratio for every 90 degrees of rotation. And no, I didn't have one laying around. Google and Photoshop to the rescue. :^)
It worked nicely. I plan on making a few more today or tomorrow.

The Bernoulli effect, as it applies to vacuum or airfoil lift was the only application I was aware of.
Anyhow, no matter what you used, it's a neat idea.

If only I had realized (or had been taught by a teacher or professor) that there were real uses for these things. Calculus class would have been a lot more fun.
