Gas grill recommendations???

Post by mbcabinetmaker »

I have decided to buy a new gas grill. My current one did a back flip off the deck in last weeks storm and is just not the same anymore. I would like to buy something mid range in price that will take the weather and have parts available in the future.

Any suggestions good or bad will be appreciated.

Available parts really does make a difference. A few years ago I purchased a PerfectFlame from Lowes. I now find that it was propriatary and replacement parts would cost more than a replacement grill of equal stature from Charbroil.
Naturally parts are sized so they are not interchangable.

Hook it to your natural gas line from your house. No more bottle refills AND I guess it would act as an umbilical cord in a storm sustuation :D .
I've been converted over for 20 years, only way to go.

I did get a Charbroil brand that we love. One external burner / 3 burner controls under one hood / charcoal or wood burner under the other hood.
Google it. It was like $349 and very rugged, weighs a ton and you don't have to shine it up like stainless.

I sold gas grills for years. Look at all the models and you will find that most stores do not sell the exact grill. What the mfg does is put the lid from model A on Model B, The cabinet doors from this model on that etc... to give each store a different look. But the basic grill is the same. Look at BTU's . The higher the BTU the better you can control your heat. The cheap $100 units you see have such low BTU's that you can only cook on high to get any heat.

So are you saying that a high BTU grill from any manufacturer is as good as any other?

I think if it was me, I'd go for a Weber gas grill. But I probably never would get a gas grill, since I like the charcoal grill better (it is a Weber).

Get the size that best suits your needs such as how many you'll be cookin for and how often should be proper guidelines. But may I strongly recommend a nice cast iron smoking box,add some apple, cherry, mesquite chips;or peach&hickory chips.Gas or charcoal smokin is the trick, as we say here in the Appalachians mtns " That will make a tadpole jump up and smack a Whale square in the jaw" now that,s some good eaten.

This is the one I have. It's been in regular use for 2 years now and no major problems with it. Heats up quickly, cooks evenly, and does not flare. It's also pretty easy to clean and maintain. Mine is connected to the house's gas supply.

Well I looked at everything from HD,Lowes, and Sears. I am leaning toward a Weber with a side burner that no one stocks. I have a nice cast iron smoker that I can also use charcoal in so I am looking at a smaller size since it is mostly just me and the LOML that I cook for. Some of the Charbroil brands look good but as cincinnati pointed out all stores carry them with slight differences so that they do not have to compete on price.
