Slow to start and throws breaker

Thank you all for the responses.
After reading the replys it looks like it is stuck on high speed.
The belt is all the way down on the sheave . I will look to adjust this and do some more cleaning on the motor and inside the headstock.

I hope to get to do this task tomorrow afternoon.

Idler shaft(control sheave) or motor shaft(floating sheave)?

Just an update.

The screw on the speed controller is bent and made changing the speed very difficult. It is basically stuck on high speed. I have ordered a new speed controller.

Worm gear?

Yes.

Worm gear is probably a better description of the bent part.

Being bent is not uncommon for that part. Caused by a chain of events that are started by too aggressive turning of the control towards slow. The legs are bent causing mis-alignment of the worm gear to the quadrant gear(porkchop) which causes mal-forming of the teeth and then worm gear shaft bending. Now you know how to prevent a 'repeat'.

I have installed the new speed controller and made sure it was set to the slow setting and it starts up with no issues. (and I can adjust the speed too.)
