Link Belt
My drive belt is in need of replacing. I researched this forum and found recommendations for the powertwist link belt. If anyone is thinking about this method, I just found a special at http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=6040 4feet for 19.99. With coupon code 2r101, you get free shipping as well until 4/6.
Thanks for posting that one.....I missed seeing it in all the stuff I get from Rockler. I now have 2 on order. 1 for my bandsaw on a power stand and 1 for my 'build a power stand for my jointer' round-2-it project.bduemig wrote:My drive belt is in need of replacing. Since the drive belt is easy to replace without any disassemble requiired, I recommend buying the Shopsmith drive belt (26.5")which is wider than 1/2" (Approx less than 9/16"). I use link belts if some disassemble is required to install the belt or I have no belt length available to start with. I used link belts (35 links) on my Mark Vs for a few years with some aluminum dust coming off the sheaves that did not appear to cause any problems other than blowing the dust out a couple times a year. It did keep the sheaves clean and I believed there was less noise and vibration when using link belts. I went back to using the V-belt mainly due to cheaper price and the v-belt worked without any problems. I have used 26" 1/2" Kevlar belts lately for my equipment due to price. You have to play more with the HIGH and LOW speed adjustmenst if not using the Shopsmith belt.ibduemig wrote:My drive belt is in need of replacing. Another alternative
Harbor Freight sells link belts for $25 for 5'. Also on Ebay (where I got my last two) there's a guy selling them for about $5.50 a foot and charges a couple bucks for expedited shipping.
