I must be a mental Case
I must be a mental Case because I saw an ad on Kijiji yesterday night selling a 510, a DC3300, bandsaw, jointer and a lot of accessories for $500.00. What was I supposed to do just ignore it? Of course not, what if I already have 2 500's, a 510, and a 520 plus the other items on my signature line and I don't know what the hell I am going to do with another 510. I had to have it!!!! I got it!!! HIH,(her imperial highness) or shmbo asked me why, and I had to tell her that I would have felt like shit if I didn't get such a great deal. She just looked at me and shook her head and walked away, she is a nurse and I know that she planning to have me placed in an institution. I need your help guys don't let her put me away, sob sob. The only think I can think of is that she wants me to continue renovating the house which is 120 years old, but I am running out of things to do, I already did most of it. I am still glad I got it, what a great deal!!

The really smart thing for you to do, right now - before you are over run - would be to get organized. Float a loan for a larger shop, build that shop and then compartmentalize. You do not want to be like I am. I am now wishing that I had accumulated everything I might want/need while I was still working and truly had a monthly budget. I no longer have a "budget", just a certain amount of money and then it is all gone until the next monthly check. Thank God there is a monthly check. Obama willing and Congress doesn't take it away.dan1999 wrote:I must be a mental Case because I saw an ad on Kijiji yesterday night selling a 510, a DC3300, bandsaw, jointer and a lot of accessories for $500.00. That is exactly why when I had the money I bought over 2 dozen Shopsmiths (included a lot of road trips), my little Woodmizer sawmill, some "extra" old tractors needing restoring and a batch of horses... I also bought all of the equipment I needed (and then some
My horses don't pay me back except in hugging but other peoples horses pay a few bills. The boot shop will pay well and I believe so will the sawmill. The woodshop will probably always lose money but I don't care.
Property taxes and insurance eat me alive... (about $6,000 a year) and is not going down any. That takes a huge bite out of rental income...
Now I don't have near the income I had a few years ago but as long as my health holds up I have a lot ways and skills to make some extra money. My closest and best neighbor offered me a job "again" last week but I don't want to go back to "hours" ever again.
I don't know how long I will be able to wrangle horses (and horse owners) but then we never really know those things for sure anyway. Right now My health is good for an old man and there is just the two of us that I have to provide for. We don't really need a lot except for that pesky eating out habit (old peoples national pastime) and wanting to take a few trips.
One of our daughters moved from TN to the S-W corner of MT and we are planning a trip out there this summer with a loop probably south to maybe Colorado or NM and back. Going to be pretty expensive (to us) especially with the fuel cost and we may pull a very light travel trailer. Kind of a toss-up between using extra fuel pulling it and the cost of motels... Going to have to dig a lot of change out of the couch cushions.
Breaking off this ramble, you are exactly right in advising guys to acquire their hobby stuff while they still have a full income.
