Mk V 1&1/8th HP motor plain bearing

I've stripped the motor on my Mark V partly because it was choked with sawdust & partly due to the noise level during a very short test run after acquiring it.

Sure enough, the bearing at the drive end needs replacing. But I'm stumped with the other end. It's a plain bearing which just sits in the machined out endplate. Its not a style I've encountered before & I haven't been able to source a replacement. It actually looks to be OK so I plan to just put it back together; problem is, the grease that was in there seems to be contaminated with wood fibers. Of course, that may be what the grease is supposed to be like - as I say, I've never opened one of these before!

So I'd like to know if anyone can tell me what the right grease is for this & how to pack it. Any other information would also be welcome including part numbers for replacement - I'm in the UK so I'd have to source it here. It also means that it's a 240V motor so it's maybe not standard issue although it is made in the USA.

Several of us have seen that type of end. Basically some fibrous stuff is packed there which you soak with oil (it's not wood chips). There are some past postings which I didn't look up yet; they were dealing with Emerson motors in power-stations as well as rare Mark V's this way.

Thanks Chris, I found that thread which was very useful. I have about half the wadding left compared to a pic over there and it's pretty dry so it looks like re-packing will be needed.

If all else fails I'll try Bill Mayo's method using cotton wool & bearing grease but I'll try a local motor repair center here & maybe get a solution from them, now that I know what I'm looking for.
