Or, contagious.
There is a Good Friday Auction here in Westminster every year. It has been going on for years and it has kind of become an annual gathering type thing of farmers, scrappers, home owners, etc. The Local 4-H Club and Jaycee’s Club does all the food stuff. And, they have baked goods and all. Well, this year they had this old basket case Mark VII sitting at the far end of everything. I saw it early on in the day. I wasn't really interested because it was pretty rough looking (definitely not taken very good care of) and I had my eye on a couple of other items. Well come the end of the day and at the end of all the rows/mounds of stuff, it made its way into my trailer. I just couldn't see it going to the scrap yard for 25 dollars. So, I guess I have another project awaiting my attention. It didn't really have a lot of accessories but it did come with a couple of things. It had three Miter Gauges (2 Craftsman and one with a Canadian Patent on it), one auxiliary table, the standard table saw table with fence, a brand new Craftsman table insert (it sort of looks like somebody tried to retro fit it with craftsman parts), a few odd looking clamps (that I have never seen before) and a few odds and end metal scraps. But, to my surprise underneath everything was a brand new (still in the original packaging) Craftsman 10" carbide combination blade and a brand new Craftsman wobble dado. I know those sell for more than $25, so I guess I didn't make out to bad in the whole deal.
I know pictures speak a thousand words. I have a couple but I will have to post them a little later.
This Shopsmith stuff sure is adicting.

I've never heard of that auction, I'm surprised.
All my people back in that neck of the woods were farmers down in Monkey county.
My sis lives in New Windsor, so maybe next year I'll make a point of visiting over that weekend!
Don't know how I would get anything back to the here to the desert though!
Did bring a antique Porter Cable Take-along belt sander in my suitcase last time.
The security folks didn't like the looks of it on their xray machines.
Good on you for finding a 7, that's next on my list when a deal like that comes along in my area. I am going after a Mark 5 Greenie tomorrow for a $100.00.
it runs and comes with a jigsaw.

Shopsmith
It absolutely amazes me that once you have a shopsmith the bug sets in and you have to have another, then another, etc. Those damned things are addicative it must be the fact that in a day and age of today that craftmanship of the quality of the shopsmith comes through. They are darned near indestructible and even if something does go wrong it is no great leap of aptitude to replace the part just love the machines. I just don't get why with such a great product that shopsmith couldn't bring it into the future in a really big way, kinda sad when most of the new stuff out there is becoming more and more like junk.
Mark V 520,Mark V 510(2),Mark V 500(2) Dust Collector(2), Jointer(2), bandsaw(2), jigsaw, beltsander, biscuit joiner(2) Lathe Duplicator, RingMaster, Pro planer
Almost forgot to comment on the auction question. The auction is by Nevin Tasto Auctioneers. Nevin has been in the auction business for many years. He has been doing this Good Friday Auction for a number of years now also. But, it has just started to become real popular in the last 8, maybe 10 years now. It has gotten so big that now he has hired on a few other auctioneer’s (I'm guessing there probably is a better term for one who is skilled at rambling on the auction lingo) and he has split the Good Friday Auction into two days (the Saturday two weeks before Good Friday for the big equipment and Good Friday for everything else).
Addictive? I believe there might be a DSM IV code for it...

Signs: Having more than one Shopsmith. I have over 10... 5 Mark Vs which includes a 1955 Greenie that was given to me a year or two ago. A 1970's version 500; a 510, a 520 (upgraded 510), and now a Mark 7 (DVR upgraded, double tilt, and new casters). The Mark 7 was a 1991 Mark V 510. But the seller had the Incra fence system on it, a headstock powered planer, biscuit cutter, jointer, and some other stuff. Too much to say no.
In February 2008, my dog & I took a trip to the factory in Poe Ave where I was welcomed like family. The factory tour made it worse because I saw Shopsmith 10E/ER for the first time. They were being used for machining parts for the new Mark Vs. So I got the bug. I did not pay much for them. Another completely restored 10ER for $150. A third 10E owned by a machinist that looked just like new for $80... I paid $200 for my first one. He was the original owner; now in his 90s. He makes toys for children in hospitals as a volunteer, so I didn't mind paying some extra bucks.
Craigslist & Ebay have been sources of many bargains, along with Shopsmith sale specials. I've seen some people pay more to an Ebay seller than Shopsmith had the item on special for. Some people must never check the Shopsmith site.
I've found many real good people because of Shopsmith. In 20 years of buying stuff for the 520 of mine- a 510 my father gave to me & I upgraded it. I've only had one bad experience with a seller.
I can probably tell what Shopsmith things I don't have vs what I do which includes almost anything ever sold by Shopsmith.
My home is finally having the interior finished- an almost 4-year going project. This means the addition I had built as a wood work shop will finally be used! I'll be able to set all my Shopsmiths up and turn them all on if I want. I wired a 100 amp sub-panel for my Shopsmith-equipped shop.
I am buy some new saw blades tonight on the special sale... I might just add one or two more DVR motors to my Mark Vs as the performance improvement is unbelievable! The constant torque, the no more light dimming or circuit breaker popping... Such a pleasure!
My name is Tony and I am a Shopsmithoholic...

I believe you've taken the first step.
