In the early 70's, worked at a service station/car wash in which the local distributer would call and tell me to set the pumps for the price adjustment. Sometimes, it would go up to 20.9 for regular. Somedays, it would be adjusted down to 14.9 cents per gallon for a week or two. Then came 1976 when the price of gasoline went to more than 30 cents for a gallon. Had a Pinto getting 31+ mpg. In 1975, bought a big old Torino Elite getting about 12 mpg and the price of fuel doubled. That was the last big car I owned. On civil service (federal) pay, had to be on a stringent budget. On on that retirement, driving a Toyota that gets about 20 mpg with wheelchair lift on back. Buy one tank of gasoline each month. Budget my trips. :D

I fill up once a month now. The last time I topped the tanks it cost me $86.47 for a little over 20 gallons.
