Pen Blank Cutter/Borer tool?

Post by eagleta2 »

Hi All

Do any of you have experience with this tool? I have been making pens for quite a while and this at least seems like "the better mousetrap"

http://penmakingsupplies.com/Projects/penaccess1_2_3.php

Its the tool that cuts a round pen blank 3" long with a 7mm center hole already drilled.

If you are familiar with this system...which size is your favorite?

Thanks for the help!

I have not seen this before. It looks interesting, so I did a search and found this discussion about it. I hope this answers some questions that you have.

I was not aware of such a tool. According to the IAP post one would be somewhat limited, in part anyway, to the size holes drilled. If this would be the only way of preparing your pen blanks it would make it quite difficult to do segment turning such as a celtic cross design because of the round blank. I can see where a perfectly centered tube hole would always result. I find that is really not that important unless you do inlays or segments. But I can see where creatimg a bunch of ready to glue blanks could quickly be done with this tool. Thanks for the link-pretty good prices.

Regards,
Dwight
