Warning! Warning! Ss Invasion!!!

Post by STB »

Beware !! Beware !! The invasion of the SS machine monsters has started .

Various SS forum members have alluded to shopsmitholcism, a compulsion, a sickness, a disease, an overriding of all common sense, to scheme in the dark late at night to acquire more and more SS equipment. I had always thought that this was the delusional ranting of old men. Stories told late at night around the campfire to scare the young ones. While telling of past woodworking glories that lurk in the fog and dark, at the edge of past faded memories .

I am here to tell you this is wrong.

We are under a full scale attack of the of the SS Machine Monster. !!!Save yourselves.!!! It is to late for me.

The SS machine monsters have caused me to commit bazaar and unnatural acts while cutting, boring, and shaping wood. They made me think, plan and the worst, follow directions. Along with other things only the elders whisper about on cold moonless nights. Things that must be kept from the young ones.

This is my story.

The winter after being retired from my corporate job SWMBO and I were huddled around the TV wrapped in blankets trying to keep warm. Watching a blizzard that had already dumped enough snow to reach the belly of a tall horse. The humidity was about 85% the temperature in the single digits. My wife said “ let’s go to the desert for the winter”. That simple statement is what led to my eventual state of demise. We closed my 1700 sq ft play house / man cave / woodworking shop, packed up, moved to the desert for the winter . Bought a house with a 1 ½ stall garage (the ½ side was for my toys) . We blissfully started to enjoy the desert beauty and it’s dry warm air.
Not long after settling in we were in the front room in front of the fire place. I was surfing the web the wife was reading a Danielle Steele novel. I was sipping on some Desert Diamond Agave Rum (true nectar of the gods). The desert night was peaceful. It was the perfect evening that only two people married for 45 years can enjoy. Suddenly SWMBO looked up from the book and said “honey the fireplace mantel is ugly can you make a new one”.
Since I was on the web I pulled up CL and there it was. My eventual undoing, the bargain of the year, a 520 50th anniversary ShopSmith, the SS machine monster waiting for its next victim.
The SS machine monsters now have added to there numbers. There are now 2 additional Mark V’s a ShopSmith Power station ,2 jointers,,2 jigsaws, belt sander, band saw and to many accessories to name. The SS machine monsters were still not satisfied they demanded there own space a 12x24 shed.

Must go now, they call. SS masters are demanding more wood to cut. Aaarrrrrgggggghhhhhh.

Guilty and happy about it. Tried out my biscuit cutter yesterday for the first time. How absolutely sweet. Have made two pirate chests using that joinery. Two more to go. And, the addiction only ends when you start looking at the other side of the grass. :D

Edit: Really nice shed/shop. Love the construction materials.

I just love it when she says I can go make sawdust. ;) :D
