510 Table Wobble
Hello
I am returning a long disused 1985 510 back to service. I aligned the table by eye, then checked with a dial indicator for an accuracy front to back of 0.008. While the alignment of the blade is ok, the dial indicator revealed that I have about 0.010 of flex in the table with very minimal up or down pressure.
The table itself is not cracked or warped, the 4 alignment bolts on the bottom of the table are tight, I double checked that all of the locks are working and that they were tightened, there are no noticeable dents in the way tubes.
I looked for independent motion in the table support structure and it seems that the cast component which connects the fixed element of the table pivot and the tubular vertical support stanchion seems to be moving.
I would appreciate any advice on resolving this wobble.

Either way, .008" to .010" is not a great deal. I have not measured mine but I will. To help stabilize my tables, when I would like for them to be rock solid, I install the extension tubes. This serves to convert the two point stance of the carriage and the two point stance of the extension table to a four point stance. Doing this takes nearly all of the unwanted motion out of the tables.

Its vertical movement, measured at the edge of the table farthest away from the blade.
We had also observed that using the tubes to secure the table to the secondary table does remove the motion, however using the tubes in this manner means that we cant use them to support the table extension.

Unwanted VERTICAL movement of the main table, to me, translate to either the table height lock (depth of cut) or the table tilt lock are slipping.
I would start by dismantling the locks (which ever one you first believe is the culprit) and cleaning them up. Sawdust and/or residual wax can do this to you. My go to machine is twenty five years old and it has all original parts (except for a drive belt). These things just don't go bad unless they have been abused.
All new wedges are probably not $20 but don't go there yet.

The joint where relative motion is visible is the place to look closer.
I am not clear which parts those are.

To answer your question, yes, I would have noticed the wobble even without the gauge.
I was doing some test cuts the other day, simple 2' by 1/4" strips; checking for parallel ripping. I noticed that most strips have a blade shaped scallop about 2/3 of the way down the rip. This is where I was re positioning the fence strattler and the table was moving vertically.
I know the SS can make rips with a consistent cut, so I knew something had to be wrong.
The part which seems to be moving independently is #151 in the image below. The vertical tube with the teeth is rigid, but the cast iron pivot seems to be moving.
Any ideas to diagnose or repair are much appreciated.

Check carefully to see if part # 151 is not cracked. This can happen if someone dropped the table at some time in the past. Also check to see if the table tube with the teeth is not loose in the casting as it is a press fit and may loosen if the table is dropped on the tube.
What part of Fl are you in. You may be near enough for a visit.

Hi,
It might be worth taking the table off the machine and laying it on a flat surface. Then try moving the legs and see what if anything is moving when you have a clear view of all of the underside parts.
I would check the pivot pins to see if you have movement there. Part 142 could be loose or damaged, also check for cracks on part 144, if it had been over tighten it could have been damaged too.
